67 schools to be issued show-cause notices

By the State government over fee hike

The Delhi government will issue show-cause notices to 67 private schools for not complying with orders to roll-back fee hikes, officials said on Thursday.

A government spokesperson said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had ordered the Directorate of Education to send notices to 195 private schools for what the government termed an arbitrary increase in fee.

The schools were asked to roll back the hike and 128 of them complied, the spokesperson said.

The 67 schools that did not comply with the direction to roll back the hike will soon be sent show-cause notices, the spokesperson added.

“In the spirit of cooperation, the government will work with the private schools. It appreciates the schools that have rolled back the arbitrary hike and have sent a relief to huge number of parents in Delhi. The Delhi government believes in co-existence of government and private schools,” the spokesperson also said.

Sisodia to hold meet

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who is also the Education Minister, will meet representatives of the 128 schools, which complied with the order, to discuss the plan to improve education in the Capital, the spokesperson further said.
