With a view to double the farmers’ income, the Union government has taken decisions such as paying 1.5 times the cost of cultivation borne by them and providing online National Agriculture Market (NAM) platform, said chairman of the Committee on Doubling the Farmers Income and CEO of the National Rainfed Area Authority Ashok Dalwai.
Mr. Dalwai said that 54 mandis of Haryana have been linked with e-NAM.
At the World Union of Wholesale Markets Conference in Gurugram on Thursday, he said that two years ago, e-NAM was implemented in the country for farmers to enable them to sell their produce at competitive prices in any of the connected mandis . This proved to be a success as business of more than ₹50,000 crore has been done so far through this platform.
Mr. Dalwai said that more than 1.19 crore farmers, 1.18 lakh traders, more than 66,000 commission agents and 383 farmer producer organisations of 20 States were connected with e-NAM platform. As many as 585 mandis and 90 commodities have been registered on e-NAM platform, Mr. Dalwai added. He also said that 54 mandis in Haryana have been linked with e-NAM.
CEO, National Centre for Cold Chain Development, Pawanexh Kohli said that in order to promote cold storage units in the country, arrangements were being made to simplify rules and grant subsidy.
