A joint team of the Delhi Police Crime Branch and the Election Commission on Saturday seized 497 bottles of illicit Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from a warehouse allegedly belonging to Aam Aadmi Party candidate from Uttam Nagar Naresh Balyan.

A senior police officer said investigation suggested that the premise belonged to Mr. Balyan.

“The Crime Branch has recovered a huge haul of illicit liquor from a godown at Kabari Bazar Road, Om Vihar Phase-1, Uttam Nagar. As many as 497 bottles of illicit IMFL , meant for sale in Haryana only, have been recovered. It was meant for distribution during the Assembly elections in Delhi,” said the officer.

The AAP jumped to defend Mr. Balyan. Party leader Atishi Marlena said: “The raid was on the property of Mukesh Balyan. The godown where the liquor bottles were found doesn’t belong to the AAP candidate. The FIR is not against him.”
