A 46-year-old man was found dead inside his residence in north Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla on Sunday morning.

The police said the deceased has left behind a note. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Harendra Singh said Naveen Kumar Gupta alias Bunty was living in a rented accommodation in Shastri Nagar since 2015.

Smoke from room

“A police control room call was received regarding a fire at a house in Shastri Nagar. When the police reached the spot, they found smoke coming out from the room on the second floor. The room was found locked from inside,” Mr. Singh said.

The teams broke open the door and saw Gupta lying injured.

“The victim was rushed to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital where he was declared dead. The crime scene has been inspected and photographs were taken,” the officer said. Gupta had addressed the note to his sister where he spoke of being under financial debt.

An officer privy to the case said Gupta was divorced and his parents and elder brother had passed away.

Private job

The victim used to work at a private company at a salary of ₹12,000-₹14,000 per month, the police said.

Gupta’s sister has been informed, Mr. Singh said, adding that the woman said she will come for the post-mortem and procedural formalities on Monday.

“The matter will become clear after speaking to Gupta’s sister,” the officer said.
