The Delhi Police apprehended four minors aged between 14 and 17 years on Wednesday in connection with a hit-and-run case reported from Hauz Khas last week, the police said on Thursday. The teenagers were released on bail.

Two women, including a foreign national, sustained minor injuries when a car driven by a teenager hit them on January 25. The victims had alleged that the police had deliberately delayed action in the case.

All the accused are school students and were returning from a party at a restaurant in Hauz Khas Village on the day of the incident, the police added.

Neha Samant (25) and Ukrainian national Elena Limane (24) were walking towards Aurobindo Market from Hauz Khas Village in the evening on January 25 when a speeding car hit them and sped away. Ms. Samant fell on the car’s bonnet and then slipped on the road.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya said all four accused are resident of Pilanji Village in south-east Delhi. However, the police refused to respond to a question on drunk driving.

The victims had claimed that the accident was captured on a CCTV camera but it took the police over six days to identify the offending vehicle. They also questioned why the parents were not booked for letting the juvenile drive the car.

Police sources said the car belongs to one of the accused and that the police are exploring the possibility of booking his father under Motor Vehicle Act for allowing the minor drive.

“The car has been seized and a probe is on,” said Mr. Baaniya.
