The traffic police fined 3,195 motorists in the Capital for flouting rules on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat on Wednesday. Besides these, 14 vehicles were also impounded.
Nearly 1,000 traffic and local policemen were deployed across the city, especially in the south, east, central and Lutyens’ Delhi areas, to oversee enforcement of traffic and security arrangements, said a senior traffic police officer.
“Integrated barricading was in place on Wednesday, which means both the traffic and local police worked together to challan violators. The arrangements were in place to make things easy for those offering prayers on Shab-e-Barat,” he added.
The southern range, which includes the South and South-East districts, recorded the maximum number of challans, while the outer district saw the least number of challans.
“In the southern range, 626 motorists were challaned, while 84 persons were fined in outer district,” said a traffic police officer.
Data released by the Delhi traffic police stated that 2,029 persons were fined for riding two-wheelers without wearing a helmet, 739 for triple ridding, 226 for driving the wrong way and dangerous driving, 14 vehicles were impounded and 201 were fined for other violations.
