3 held on suspicion of beef possession

Seized packet sent for forensic tests

Three men were arrested on suspicion of possessing beef in west Delhi on Sunday morning. Two of the accused work for a call centre, while the third works for a private company.

According to the police, they received a call in connection with the incident on Sunday morning.

Caught by a group

The caller informed them that a group of persons had caught three youths with a packet of meat they suspected was beef. A police team reached the spot and seized the packet, which has been sent for forensic tests.

During questioning, the men purportedly confessed to having slaughtered a calf in the Ridge forest and carrying the meat.

The police dispatched a team to collect samples from the area in the Ridge forest where the accused had allegedly slaughtered the animal.

A case under Section 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle, etc., of any value or any animal of the value of ₹50...) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions under the Delhi Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act, 1994, was registered against the trio.

Names not revealed

The police have not disclosed the names of the accused persons. The police also did not reveal whether the case was registered after a preliminary report or merely on the basis of a complaint and the purported confession. All three accused hail from Manipur.
