Three young men are suspected to have drowned in the Haiderpur canal in Outer Delhi’s Samai Pur Badli on Monday.

A rescue operation was carried out, but bodies have not been recovered so far. According to the Fire Department, a call regarding the incident was received by the police control room on Monday evening.

“Three teams of the Fire Department, along with divers, were sent to the spot. The rescue operation was carried out for over four hours on Monday, but the bodies could not be recovered. The teams were sent on Tuesday as well, but failed despite a 10-hour search operation. Another team will be sent on Wednesday,” said an officer.

The locals told the police that they saw three young men, aged about 18-25 years, jump into the canal for bath on Monday afternoon. A little later, they heard cries for help and soon the young men could not be seen anywhere.

“The locals told us that they were residents of nearby areas. Their identity has not been discovered so far. It will be clear only once we recover the bodies,” said a police officer.
