Three persons were killed and around two dozen injured when a bus hit a container truck in a pile-up on National Highway-8 in Rewari on Friday.

According to the police, the Rajasthan Roadways bus was on its way to Delhi from Jaipur around 1 p.m. when it hit a container truck from behind, which in turn had rammed another container truck.

Bus overturns

“The bus was behind two trucks when the driver of the truck in the front suddenly applied brakes. It caused a pile-up as the drivers of the other two vehicles could not apply brakes in time. As a result, the bus overturned,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Bawal) Satyapal Yadav.

While two persons were killed on the spot, another succumbed to injuries on the way to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak. The drivers of the two trucks fled the spot.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Mohan and Hasina. Hasina’s husband, Ali Hasan, said she had gone to her parental house in Jaipur and was on her way back to Delhi when the accident happened. “The police called me to inform about her death,” said Mr. Hasan. The other deceased is yet to be identified.

Four persons critical

Ten persons were admitted to Civil Hospital in Rewari and nine were referred to PGIMS in Rohtak

Mr. Yadav said four of the injured were critical.

Meanwhile, the accident caused traffic snarls on the highway.
