Three men have been arrested for allegedly supplying drugs in Delhi and adjoining States, the police said on Monday.

The accused

The accused have been identified as Akhtar Ali (41), Jahangir (29) and Jenulabdin (49), they said.

The police have seized 3 kg of high-grade heroin and 1 kg of alprazolam worth ₹15 crore in the international market from their possession, said P.S. Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).

Tip-off and trap

Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap on August 11 near Ambedkar Nagar bus stand where the accused had come to deliver consignment to one of their contacts following which they were arrested, Mr. Kushwah said.

Akhtar and Jahangir, revealed that the consignment was supplied by a person from Latehar, a resident of the Naxal-affected area in Jharkhand, and Akhtar used to supply alprazolam to that person, said the officer.

Alprazolam was apparently used to enhance the potency of heroin.

Akhtar revealed that he had been supplying drugs for 16 years.
