28-year-old labourer dies at DMRC site

January 18, 2017 12:36 am | Updated 12:36 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A 28-year-old labourer, working at a DMRC site near Shastri Park Metro Station, died after a tripod pillar fell on him, the police said on Tuesday.

The deceased, Humagir, was working at the DMRC site for construction of transit camp for CISF adjacent to the metro station when the tripod pillar fell on him on Monday.

Case registered

A case under sections 387 (putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion), 304 A (causing death by negligence) of IPC has been registered, the police said.

A DMRC spokesperson, however, said the ‘hydra’ that unloaded on the labourer was brought to the site without the corporation’s permission.

‘Human error’

“A labourer working at the transit hostel accommodation site in Shastri Park died on Monday after a hydra functioning at the site unloaded its load on the labourer. Prima facie, it appears to be an error by the hydra operator. “The hydra belonged to a sub-contractor of the main contractor, Aadhar Stambh, and had been brought to the site without the permission of DMRC. An inquiry is being conducted," he said. — PTI
