A 26-year-old man allegedly committed suicide on Monday afternoon at the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in south-east Delhi’s Kalkaji.

Suicide note recovered

Rahul Prasad worked as a data entry operator. He was found hanging from a ceiling fan on the third floor of the SDM’s office. A suicide note has been recovered from the spot.

Mr. Prasad was a resident of Chhatarpur Extension.

He reportedly ended his life because he felt he wasn’t doing enough for his family.

‘He was upset’

“We have recovered a suicide note. It seems like the deceased was upset. The note said that he wasn’t able to contribute enough to the family. He has apologised for the same to his parents, brothers, sisters and other relatives,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east) Romil Baaniya.

The police received a call at 1.30 p.m. from the SDM’s office in the Tughlakabad Institutional Area.

Upon reaching the spot, the police found Mr. Prasad dead.

Proceedings initiated

His body has been kept at Safdarjung Hospital. A post-mortem examination will be conducted on Tuesday.

“Inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure have been initiated,” said Mr. Baaniya.
