A 22-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide at her residence in east Delhi’s Mandawali on Thursday evening, the police said on Friday. A suicide note has been recovered, they said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Singh said the deceased has been identified as Priyanka, who worked with a private firm in Noida. She lived with her family.

Found hanging

Priyanka was found hanging from the ceiling fan, the police said.

In her suicide note, she wrote, “ Main bahut kuch karna chahti thi but yeh shareer har jagah meri insult karata hai. Pinjare mein bandh gai thi is body mein [I wanted to do a lot of things in life but this body insults me everywhere. I am caged in this body]”.

Post-mortem

The family said that she was unhappy with her “extremely thin” body. However, they are not sure if that was the reason behind her extreme step.

Mr. Singh said, “Body image issue has not come out as a reason in the investigation so far.”

Priyanka’s body was handed over to her family members following a post-mortem.
