2 robbed, 1 killed in Keshav Puram

In two separate incidents; no arrests made so far

In two separate cases reported in Keshav Puram on Wednesday, a man was shot dead and another was robbed, the police said.

A 50-year-old man was shot dead on Wednesday allegedly by unidentified persons in north-west Delhi’s Keshav Puram, they said. The deceased was identified as Vinod Garg, a resident of Rohini Sector-6, they said. Garg used to work as a commission agent at a factory on Lawrence Road.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-west) Aslam Khan said that the police received two calls around 2.45 p.m. regarding the incident.

Garg was passing through the Lawrence Road underpass on his scooter when a man was being robbed by a bike-borne criminals. As the victim started shouting for help, the robbers panicked and fired at him. The bullet, however, hit Garg on his chest, after which he fell down on the ground, Ms. Khan said.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead, she said.

The police said that the robbers managed to decamp with a bag containing around ₹3,000 cash.

In another incident, a businessman was robbed of ₹2 lakh in middle of the road in Rani Bagh under Keshav Puram police station.

The incident was reported at 5.30 p.m. when Purushottam, who deal in iron business, was on the way to his shop in Rani Bagh after collecting ₹2 lakh cash from a dealer in Shastri Nagar.

“Four men on two bikes were following him from Shastri Nagar. They tried to stop his car by claiming the tyre had punctured, but Purushottam did not stop. The accused finally stopped his car in Rani Bagh and smashed the windowpane with the butt of the pistol and snatched the cash,” Ms. Khan said.

The robbers threatened to kill the businessman if he dared to shout or tried to stop them.

“We have registered an FIR in each of the cases. Efforts are on to arrest the accused,” said Ms Khan.
