June 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - New Delhi:

Two minors died in a motorcycle accident in East Delhi on Shab-e-Barat. They were neither wearing helmets nor they had licence.

According to the police, the victims were triple-riding a motorcycle at the time of the accident on the Geeta Colony flyover around 4:50 a.m. Identified as Abdul Ghalib (16), the survivor, his brother Hayat (14), and cousin Bittu (15), the trio had left their residence at Rani Garden, for Jama Masjid to attend Shab-e-Barat on a borrowed Hero Honda Passion motorcycle.

Bittu, a resident of Brijpuri, visited his cousins specially to accompany them for the purpose. The boys, school dropouts, took turns to ride the motorcycle throughout the night. “The accident occurred when they were heading back to home and their motorcycle skid on the Geeta Colony flyover apparently due to a light shower that hit the Capital on Tuesday evening,” said a senior police officer.

The police denied the boys were killed while performing stunts.

Peaceful

The sacred occasion of Shab-e-baraat, the Traffic Police said on Wednesday, was observed peacefully across the Capital. As many as 773 bikers were fined for different offences, 517 for not wearing helmets, 161 for triple-riding, 34 for dangerous driving, 12 for red light jumping, and nine for drunken driving, while 28 vehicles were impounded.
