Two labourers died after they entered a petrol tank at a petrol pump in north-west Delhi’s Model Town to clean it on Thursday.

The deceased identified as Bittu (27) and Rajiv (37), are residents of Lalbagh in Adarsh Nagar. They were working under a contractor identified as Pawan, the police said. He told the police that the men had entered the 2 lakh litre-capacity tank after rainwater seeped into it.

“The tank was empty when the men went inside it. They fell unconscious and were rushed to the hospital where they were declared brought dead,” said DCP (North-West), Aslam Khan.

Ms. Khan said that a case under IPC Section 304A has been registered at Model Town police station against the contractor. The case is under investigation.
