Two men were arrested on Thursday for allegedly killing a 23-year-old who asked them not to dump garbage in a pond outside his house in south-west Delhi’s Vasant Kunj, the police said. The third accused has been identified and efforts are on to nab him, they said.

Victim Danish was a tailor and owned a shop near his house.

The victim’s neighbour called the police control room around 3 p.m. stating that Danish was lying in a pool of blood.

A police team rushed to the spot and took Danish to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

“He had multiple stab injuries on the chest and stomach. He was declared brought dead,” said a police officer.

Heart punctured

He said the stab wound on the chest proved to be fatal as it punctured Danish’s heart, killing him on the spot.

The family said Danish was taking a walk outside the house around 2.30 p.m. when he noticed three men throwing bags full of garbage into a pond around 20 metres from his house. He walked up to them and asked them not to do so.

“My brother asked them not to dirty the pond. He told them to dump it in a garbage bin instead. Irked, they slapped him. This led to a scuffle, following which they stabbed him with a knife,” said Danish’s brother.

Locals called for help but nobody allegedly came to Danish’s rescue as he struggled to escape his attackers. One of the residents later called the police, while others tried to catch the accused. However, one of the accused managed to flee before the police arrived.

“The arrested men have been identified as Waseem and Shahrukh. The third accused has also been identified. He will be arrested soon,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Milind Dumbere.
