In an attempt to curb incidents of snatching and robbery, 18 all-woman teams have been deployed in different parts of New Delhi to sensitise women about personal safety.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Eish Singhal, on Wednesday, said that the teams consisting of 36 women officers are patrolling areas which are prone to crime against women, including lonely stretches, crowded places and markets.

“The objective is to prevent crime and make women aware of the dos and don’ts of personal safety. The teams also are sensitising women about the various measures being taken by the police and how to use Delhi Police applications like Himmat and Tatpar,” he said.

The officer said that on Wednesday, more than 250 women were sensitised by staff who patrolled on two-wheelers at different places.

Several incidents of snatching have been reported in the Capital over the last two weeks. In the last five days, the police have arrested nearly 50 robbers and snatchers and questioned thousands of suspects.
