A whopping 2,191 cases were seen in the week ending on September 26. As per the data released by the municipalities on Monday, a total of 7,606 dengue cases have been registered in Delhi this year as of October 3 – the highest number in the past five years. This past week, a total of 1,013 people got infected with the vector-borne disease in Delhi, with the three corporations seeing 773 and the New Delhi Municipal Council 13 of those. The remaining 611 cases pertained to patients who got the disease in neighbouring States.
With the weather yet to cool down, municipal health officials say dengue may continue to grip the Capital till November, though the cases showed a slight downward trend this past week.
Caught off-guard by the surge in cases, the civic bodies have intensified their fumigation drive to cull adult mosquitoes and check breeding. A total of 13.5 lakh households have been sprayed and about 2 lakh have been found positive for breeding.

A 50-year old man has become the latest victim of dengue in the city, taking the death toll to 38 even as the number of patients down with the vector-borne fever this year climbed to a menacing 7,606. With the latest casualty, the death toll in Delhi has shot up to 38 while officially, the figure stands at 25. The man, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, died at Safdarjung Hospital on Sunday evening, hospital officials said.
