Sixteen students, a school bus driver and a conductor, were injured on Saturday when the vehicle rammed a pillar at Rajnigandha Chowk underpass on Saturday morning.

The police said the bus driver, Ganga Saran, is said to be critical.

The accident happened at 7.30 a.m. when the private school bus hit a pile of construction material lying on the roadside at Rajnigandha underpass, said an eyewitness. The driver then lost control and hit the pillar. Halogen lamps were installed at the spot but none of them were working at that time, the school alleged.

The injured were rushed to Kailash Hospital in Sector 27.

The police said that 30 children, the driver and conductor were travelling on the bus at the time of the accident.

‘Children discharged’

“We received information that a school bus met with an accident. Immediately, a team was sent to the spot. The victims were safely rescued and taken to the hospital,” said Station House Officer at Sector 20 police station, Manoj Pant. The bus, belonging to Apeejay School, has been seized, the officer added.

“The children were discharged after first aid,” Mr. Pant added.
