Up to 154 FIRs have been registered in the past 24 hours against violators who have failed to pay fines imposed on them for burning garbage and leaves, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) said on Tuesday.

Burning garbage and leaves is in violation of pollution guidelines. Up to 10 people have also been arrested, the civic body added.

SDMC Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti said that round-the-clock inspections have been ordered across the civic body’s jurisdiction, especially at five hotspots where the Air Quality Index has been found to be especially poor. Intensive monitoring will continue till first week of December, he added.

Hourly monitoring of complaints received on Sameer App, and their redressal, is also being undertaken, said the SDMC.

Additional machinery, including seven water sprinklers, two jetting machines, two mechanical road sweepers, two auto-mounted litter pickers, apart from additional sanitation staff, have been deployed.
