A 14-year-old domestic help was rescued from a cupboard at the house of an industrialist in Krishna Colony here late on Wednesday evening in a joint operation by the police and Shakti Vahini, a non-government organisation.
The girl, who was produced before Child Welfare Committee around 9-30 p.m., had bruise marks all over the body and a fresh stab wound in the back. The girl revealed that her employer would kick and punch her almost every day and gave little food to eat.
“She had been badly beaten with bruise marks all over the body. She was given just two rotis a day and made to work till midnight. She was taking care of twins and had to get up several times at night as well,” said Rishi Kant of Shakti Vahini.
The girl was brought from Jharkhand by her uncle and placed at a household in Delhi a year ago.
About six months ago, she was placed with her present employer. The matter came to light when the neighbours of the family made a call to the CHILDLINE and reported the alleged abuse of the girl.
The CHILDLINE then called the police and a joint raid was carried out. “The family had hidden the girl in a cupboard in the store room to avoid detection by the police and the girl could not be located during the first visit of the police. The police team again mounted a raid and rescued the girl from inside the cupboard,” said Shakuntla Dhull, who heads Child Welfare Committee.
She suffers from extreme mental trauma and was starving.
