11-year-old girl drowns in water body

An 11-year-old girl drowned in a water body connected with the Yamuna on Tuesday afternoon. A seven-year-old boy who was with her, was rescued and is currently undergoing treatment.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said the deceased has been identified as Asha and the boy has been identified as Raja, residents of a village near Rajghat power house.

“The PCR call was received around 12.30 p.m. An enquiry revealed that the kids were playing in the pond near their house which is connected with the Yamuna,” Mr. Randhawa said.

Locals rushed to help the kids. Asha was declared dead when taken to Lok Nayak Hospital. The police have initiated inquest proceeding into the matter.

Meanwhile, 15 people, including three children, were rescued from drowning in the Yamuna near Shamshan Ghat in north Delhi’s Burari, police said on Tuesday.
