91 more illegal colonies to be regularised

The Delhi Government has given the go-ahead for carrying out development works in 91 more unauthorised colonies that have come up on land designated as forest/ridge or was owned by the Archaeological Survey of India. On Tuesday, Urban Development Minister Arvinder Singh said the department has issued a list of 91 unauthorised colonies for regularisation and has instructed the authorities to carry out development works in these colonies with immediate effect.

Clearance received

The decision, he said was made keeping in view the clearance received from all agencies and departments. Mr. Singh also said earlier developmental works were not being undertaken in these colonies due to lack of regularisation.

The State Government has already regularised 895 unauthorised colonies in the past year.

Mr. Singh said the Cabinet has already agreed and given consent for the regularisation of those colonies that have come up on land that was owned by the ASI and was designated as forest/ridge Land.

He said this has paved way for the agencies involved in developmental works to immediately start work in all of these colonies.

The total number of colonies on forest land is 157 and on ASI land it is 48. In the first phase, green signal for regularisation and development was given to 91 colonies’ regularisation.

As per the decision taken by the Delhi Cabinet, the list of 91 unauthorised colonies was issued by the Urban Development Department, the Minister said.

He went on to add that the Cabinet, while giving its sanction, had directed the Department to come out with a detailed list of such colonies that have come up on forest and ASI land along with total number of colonies being regularised and their localities at the earliest.

Since the finalisation of the list involves matching the records, the clearance for the rest of the colonies will be issued soon, he added.
