Just when power outages have become a norm in the Capital, the power regulator on Thursday approved an average hike of 8.32 per cent for domestic consumers of all the three electricity distribution companies -- BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, BSES Yamuna Power Limited and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited.
For commercial consumers power rates have been hiked up to 11 per cent. The new tariff has come into immediate effect.
The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission approved the hike but for next three months the power bills of about 80 per cent consumers will marginally come down as the regulatory body withdrew a surcharge -- Power Purchase Adjustment Cost of up to 8 per cent for August, September and October.
Bills from November onwards may see further increase as the DERC may again levy the PPAC charges on the consumers.
Consumers in Delhi will have to pay Rs. 4 per unit for consuming power up to 200 units, instead of the earlier Rs. 3.90 per unitThe new rates for consuming each unit between 201 and 400 units will cost Rs. 5.95 per unit, as against the present rates of Rs. 5.80 per unit. Residents paying Rs. 6.80 per unit for consuming power between 401 and 800 units, will have to now shell out Rs. 7.30 per unit. The cost of consuming power anywhere between 801 and 1,200 units will be Rs. 8.10 against the existing Rs. 7 per unit. In the slab of more than 1,200 units, price of power per unit will be Rs 8.75.
