A group of migrant workers from Bihar petitioned the Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore, on Friday seeking police intervention to help them get their wages that was allegedly withheld by a private industry that they were working at Kariampalayam near Pogalur.

Jogan Rai, one of the petitioners, claimed that 48 of them worked in the industry for about five months till March this year when the unit was abruptly shut down. He claimed that they were beaten for asking salary and said that they did not have money to return home.

In another petition, a widow hailing from Odisha sought action against the security guard of a private firm at Press Colony who tried to misbehave with her. She and her husband worked in the industry for about a year and her husband died in an accident, on April 27, this year. She continued staying on the industry premises when the security guard tried to sexually assault her three days after her husband’s demise.
