Work on proposed Kolli Hills Hydro Electric Project to begin soon: Minister

The works on the proposed Kolli Hills Hydro Electric Project to produce power available in the hills top will begin soon, Electricity Minister P. Thangamani said at Elachipalayam near Tiruchengode on Saturday.

Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of the function to launch various development works in Elachipalayam panchayat union, Mr. Thangamani said that works on the power projects for the generation of 4,000 MW power were under way in different parts of the State at present.

The Minister along with Social Welfare Minister V. Saroja laid foundation stone for various projects proposed at an outlay of ₹ 2.15 crore and inaugurated the completed works worth ₹ 59 lakh in different parts of Elachipalayam panchayat union.

The Minister laid foundation stones for the projects planned in different villages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS), Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana Scheme, Tamil Nadu Rural Roads Project, MLA local area development (MLA LAD) scheme and Panchayat Union general funds.

The Ministers laid foundation stone for the projects including the laying of roads in Mandapalayam village , Kachinayakkanpalayam panchayat ; Kuppandapalayam ; Aandrandipatti ; Goundampalayam ; 87.Goundampalayam Arunthathiyar colony; Agaram panchayat and Unjanai panchayat. (Rs. 12.90 lakhs) etc.

The Minister also declared open the new building for the ration shop in Thimmaravuthanpatti , anganwadi centre in Agaram panchayat and new building for Kilapalayam panchayat office .

District Collector M. Asia Mariam presided over the programmes. P. R. Sundaram, MP, Pon Saraswathi, MLA, C. Malathi, project director, District Rural Development Agency and U. Farhath Begum, District Supply and Consumer Protection Officer, and others participated in the functions.

The people have been demanding a flyover in place of the existing ground level bridge across River Thirumanimuthar in Agaram Kothampalayam village Tiruchengode.

Mr. Thangamani and Dr. Saroja inspected the site and held discussion with the officials.

Earlier, the Ministers flagged off the garbage collection vehicle procured under the solid waste management project of the Aalampalayam town panchayat.
