Water will reach tail-end farmers after Kudimaramathu work: Collector

District Collector C. Kathiravan has said that completion of ongoing Kudimaramathu works will ensure that water reaches tail-end farmers in canals and also water could be stored to the maximum capacity in lakes across the district.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting various works at Bhavani block, he said that currently 65 works to the tune of ₹ 17.09 crore is being carried out in the district, including 38 works at ₹ 11.61 crore in Lower Bhavani Project (LBPP) canals and seven works at Kalingarayan Canal, 16 works at ₹ 98.90 lakh at the blocks of Bhavani, Gobichettipalayam and Anthiyur and four works at Mettur East Canals.

Works include, clearing the bushes, repairing 178 sluices and cross masonry structures in LBP canals and Kalingarayan canal and its branches which would benefit 1.08 lakh acres and 11,695 acre respectively. Works in Arakankottai canal would help 2,772 hectare, works in Thadapalli canal would benefit 2,464 acre and works in Varattupallam water storage area would benefit 1,029 acre. Works in Mettur West Bank Canal will help 2,186 acre, he added.

Mr. Kathiravan said that 79,164 farmers across the district would be benefited upon completion of the Kudimaramathu works.

Also, works in Mettupalayam distributary at ₹ 27 lakh would help 2,081 hectares receiving water without hindrance, he added.

Rehabilitation of field channel below sluices of Odathurai Tank will help 172 acre, he said. He requested the farmers to continue carrying out maintenance works in the canals so as to receive water without any trouble.

T. Damodaran, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department, Lower Bhavani Basin Division, Subramaniyan, Assistant Executive Engineer, Bhavani Sagar Basin Division and members of various farmers association were present.
