Warning against usage of banned plastic products

District Collector C. Kathiravan has warned commercial establishments against using banned plastic products and said that violators would attract fine up to ₹ 1 lakh.

In a press release, he said that the State Government had banned use of 14 types of plastics from January 2, 2019. Stocking, transport, sale, distribution of banned plastic products would attract a fine of ₹ 25,000 the first time, ₹ 50,000 the second and ₹ 1 lakh the third time.

Likewise, if super markets, textile showrooms, malls and other establishments were found using the plastic items, they would be fined ₹ 10,000 the first time, ₹ 15,000 the second and ₹ 25,000 the third time.

The release said that violations by medium commercial establishments would be fined ₹ 1,000 the first time and ₹ 2,000 and ₹ 5,000 the second and the third respectively. Likewise, small traders would be fined ₹ 100, ₹ 200 and ₹ 500 for the first, second and third time respectively.

The release said that regular inspections would be carried out by officials and asked all the establishments to adhere to the rules.
