Villagers stage protest in Gram Sabha meeting

Condemning the official for failing to accept their petitions during the Gram Sabha meeting, people in Kongarpalayam panchayat in Gobichettipalayam block gagged their mouth with black cloth and staged a protest here on Thursday.

When the meeting began, an official received the petitions and started reading the resolutions. But villagers said that they were not paid their wages under the MGNREGS for many weeks and wanted the supervisor to be changed. They wanted their grievances to be passed as resolutions. However, officials refused to accept their petition and left the meeting. After two hours, T.N. Palayam Block Development Officer Basheer Ahmed and Bungalow Pudur police personnel held talks with the people. The official said that their demands cannot be accepted and left with their petitions. The police pacified the protesters, who later left.
