Stating that establishing common effluent treatment plant would affect farming activities at B.P. Agraharam, farmers’ submitted petition to the Collector here.
With industries letting effluents into water bodies a perennial problem in the city and its outskirts, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has proposed to establish the plant at a total cost of ₹ 720 crore and work is on to identify the land. A team led by D. Sekar, Member Secretary, TNPCB, Chennai, along with officials inspected a land near Kalingarayan Canal on November 16. Officials said that the land could be finalised for establishing the plant and a decision would be taken up soon.
However, farmers said that if the plant is established, farming activities would be affected in the entire area and wanted the plant to be established at other areas.
