With chaos prevailing at the Chennimalai Road-Outer Ring Road junction near Rangampalayam, vehicle users have demanded construction of a roundabout to avert accidents.

The Ring Road project was implemented in various phases from Kokkarayanpettai to Thindal for 14.80 km. However, delay in land acquisition at two places led to stopping of the project midway and the issue is in court now. Vehicles, except heavy vehicles, use the road and take diversions at places where works remain incomplete. Motorists from Tiruchengode, Karur and Muthur take the road to reach Perundurai as the road is free of traffic.

The Ring Road crosses Chennimalai Road near Rangampalayam, where motorists have been demanding a roundabout to ensure free flow of vehicles. “The junction is prone to accidents as vehicles from four directions meet at a point that has no traffic signal or speed breakers”, said S. Karthick of Rangampalayam. He said confusion prevailed among the road users round the clock while crossing the junction.

Apart from speed breakers, vehicle users also wanted flickering lights and signals at the junction. A roundabout is the only permanent solution to avoid accidents, they said .

Many said that two-wheeler riders faced hardship at the junction as buses, cars and other heavy vehicles plied at a high speed on the stretch.
