VCK, Naam Thamizhar cadres stage protest in Coimbatore

Political parties staged protests across the city on Friday condemning the demolition of a portion of the compound wall of the Mullivaikkal Memorial in Thanjavur. The police and the Department of Highways had carried out the demolition claiming that the wall was encroaching upon the highways.

Arrested

A total of 36 cadre of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) led by its district secretary Thennarasu were arrested at the Railway Junction here on Friday after they attempted to detain a Chennai-Mangalore train.

A group of 16 cadre of the Naam Thamizhar Katchi were arrested after they staged a protest in front of the Coimbatore Collectorate. They raised slogans against the State Government.

Even as a huge posse of police personnel were deployed, a couple of cadre attempted to scale the Collectorate gate. They were stopped by the police personnel and removed from the scene.

They were released in the evening.
