Two women pedestrians were killed after they were hit by a speeding car near No. 4 Veerapandi in Coimbatore on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as N. Saraswathi (70) and her relative R. Rangammal (60) from Amman Nagar near No. 4 Veerapandi.
The accident took place around 3.30 p.m. on Sunday when they were sitting on a low-lying wall on the side of No. 4 Veerapandi to Samanaickenpalayam road. The police said that the women were injured after the car driven by Thamarai Kannan (60) of Samanaickenpalayam hit them after the vehicle rammed an electric pole.
Couple found dead
A 35-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman from Virudhunagar were found dead in the quarters of a mill here on Saturday. The police said that the deceased hailed from Ganapathiyapuram, near Rajapalayam.
According to the police, they were into an extramarital relationship and had come to Coimbatore to live together.
They had approached a mill at Samayapuram near Mettupalayam for job on September 12. The manager of the mill arranged them an accommodation and asked them to report for work at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The couple was found hanging by workers, they added.
