Two Municipal schools at Pollachi near here were shutdown by the School Education Department owing to paucity of students.
According to sources, the Municipal primary schools at Alagapuri and Kovaipurai had just one student each last year.
Further, no new admissions were made during the current academic year. Each of the school had two staff, a teacher and a Headmaster.
Following this, the Directorate of Elementary Education closed down the schools and had the students admitted to other schools near their home. The staff were re-deployed to other schools.
