Two killed in road accident

Two of a family were killed in a collision involving their motorcycle and mini goods carriage on Sirumugai – Mettupalayam Road on Sunday evening.

The deceased were identified as D. Venkatesan (42), a resident of Thimarayampalayam near Sirumugai, and his daughter Kaushika (7). Venkatesan’s wife Soumya (26) and another daughter Nithya (4) suffered injuries.

The Sirumugai police said that the accident took place at Alangombu near Sirumugai when the family was heading to attend a function. Their motorcycle collided with a mini goods carriage laden with banana seedlings. Venkatesan and Kaushika died on the spot.

Policeman, kin booked

The Pollachi East police have booked a policeman attached to the Tamil Nadu Special Police, IV Battalion, B Company, and his relatives under various Sections of the IPC and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for allegedly assaulting his wife and calling her by caste name.

The case has been registered against D. Maheshraj, a resident of Sulewaranapatty, his mother Tamilarasi, and brother Narayanaraj based on a complaint filed by his wife M. Soundarya. The police said that Maheshraj was arrested by the Kuniamuthur police and later granted bail.
