Two out of the nine bank employees unions that constitute United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) will be staying away from the general strike slated on September 2, according to D. Manoharan, district convener of All India Bank Employees Association. He told reporters that apart from National Confederation of Bank Employees and All India Bank Officers Confederations, the members of the other seven bank employees unions would be extending support to the strike for highlighting issues related to banking sector.

“We wanted the government to declare defaulting of bank loans as criminal offence and steps should be taken to stop the looting of public money stashed in banks by the corporates, among a few other demands,” he said.
