Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board Managing Director C.N. Mahesvaran recently reviewed the progress made in implementing the underground drainage and water supply improvement works in Kurichi and Kuniamuthur.

A release from the Board said he had asked the construction company that implemented the underground drainage work – Larsen & Toubro – and the Board officials to carry out the work at night on congested roads and places that see heavy movement of vehicles.

Earlier, he visited Thirunavukkarasu Street in Ward 93 (Kuniamuthur), where the company carried out on an experimental basis the sewer line laying work from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. In the 12 hours the company constructed eight manholes and laid 210m sewer lines, the release said.

Mr. Mahesvaran asked the company and supervising engineers to ensure timely completion of work with minimum inconvenience to the public by restoring at the earliest the roads damaged due to sewer line laying work.

The Board had taken up the underground drainage work at ₹591.14 crore to provide underground sewerage connection to residents of 14 wards that covered Kuniamuthur and Kurichi.

Later, the Managing Director visited the site at Anbu Nagar where the Board had taken up construction of a 2.50 lakh litre water tank as a part of the ₹ 202.30 crore water supply improvement project.

After learning that the Board had completed 80% of the work, he urged the supervising engineers to ensure that the Board completed the work by March 2020 to be used in improving water supply. Consultant engineer S. Sampathkumar and Superintending Engineer in-charge N. Murali accompanied Mr. Mahesvaran.
