Social activist ‘Traffic’ Ramasamy forced the police to remove unauthorised flex banners alongside the city roads.
Speaking to reporters after presenting a petition to the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner A. K. Viswanathan here on Monday, Mr. Ramasamy said the banners in the city are causing inconvenience to the public and hindering road users and urged authorities concerned not to grant permission for erecting such banners and flex boards.
“Authorities not taking action against persons erecting unauthorised banners should be booked under sections 166A (public servant disobeying direction under the law) and 217 (Public servant disobeying direction of law with intent to save person from punishment or property from forfeiture) of the Indian Penal Code,” he added.
Mr. Ramasamy, said that the police have cooperated with him to remove unauthorised banners at Ukkadam. It was learnt that the police removed four banners in the locality on Sunday night and on his insistence removed the fifth banner in the same locality on Monday morning. The activist thanked the Police Commissioner for the support extended by the police for removal of unauthorised banners.
Representatives of the Makkal Pathukapu Kazhagam also lodged complaints against Minister S.P. Velumani and traders’ union leader T. Vellaiyan at Ukkadam police station for erecting multiple banners.
