Trader held for cheating businessman

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Coimbatore City Police arrested a city- based trader on the charge of cheating a businessman from Rajasthan to the tune of ₹ 42.33 lakh. CCB officials said that R. Gopi (38) of Pappanaickenpalayam, who ran a company named GN Exports and Imports, was arrested on Sunday.

They said that Gopi’s wife Devi and manager Santhosh had been booked.

According to CCB officials, Rajasthan-based businessman Sumit Gupta, who runs Shri Mahalaxmi Industries at Hanumangarh, had supplied basmati rice worth ₹ 50.43 lakh to Gopi on various occasions.

They said that Gopi paid only ₹ 8,10,000 and made a default of ₹ 42.33 lakh.

Following this, Krishna Kumar J. Mehta, Coimbatore branch manager of Shri Mahalaxmi Industries, visited Gopi at his office and demanded to pay the arrears. However, the accused did not pay the amount and allegedly threatened him.

Mr. Mehta later approached the CCB which registered a case and arrested Gopi. He was remanded in judicial custody.
