As many as 216 conservancy staff were issued allotment orders on Wednesday by the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) for the dwelling units to be constructed behind the SETC bus stand at Sidhapudur.

The workers have been staying there along with their families and buildings were in a dilapidated condition as they were constructed in 1972.

Recently, the authorities shifted the residents to the temporary camp at Sengadu in Pappanaickenpalayam on a land belonging to the Corporation.

Then the demolition of the old structures began.

Now, the construction of new tenements will begin shortly and TNSCB plans to complete the same in a year. Later the 216 families would be shifted to the new houses from Sengadu.
