The floods in Kerala are a wake up call to Tamil Nadu. The State should gear up for effective water management, Bharatiya Janata Party State president Tamilisai Soundarrajan said here on Tuesday.

The BJP leader told reporters at the airport that it was time Tamil Nadu turned its attention on desilting waterways and water bodies and rid these of all encroachments. She refuted charges that the Centre was discriminating against Kerala in extending flood relief, and asserted that the Union Government was only keen to extend all possible assistance.

Ms. Soundarrajan also suspected some ulterior motive in the Nadigar Sangham not condoling the death of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at its recent meeting.
