A 11-year-old girl from Tirupur is all set to take part in the national karate event to be held in Madhya Pradesh on December 27.
Ramya, daughter of Maheswaran and Shanthi Devi, both tailors in a garment unit, studying Standard VII in Bharathi Nagar Corporation School, won the State level karate event held in Erode and was chosen for the national event organised by the School Games Federation of India.
Ramya told reporters that she was undergoing karate training for three years. She was inspired by the photos and videos of children practising karate that her father had stored in his mobile phone.
On learning that they were his friends’ children, Ramya decided to make her father proud by learning karate.
She practices from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. every day. Despite monetary constraints, her parents are sending her for the training.
Ramya is among the 48 contestants selected for the national event in the under 14 and 26 kg weight category. Ramya’s trainers, Sridhar and Nachimuthu, have assured her all assistance to take part in the event.
