Three killed in accidents

Two persons were killed after the two-wheeler they were travelling collided with a 108 ambulance at Sulur late on Sunday.

S. Sathishkumar (18) from Mathiazhagan Nagar, near Sulur, who rode the two-wheeler and pillion rider R. Vikram (19) from Perumal Kovil Street, near Sulur, were killed in the accident which took place near Sulur bus stop around 8.45 p.m. The police said that the ambulance, which did not have a patient, was driven by K. Kaviarasan (25) of Palani who has been working as acting driver for two years. While Sathishkumar died on the spot, Vikram was rushed in another 108 ambulance to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. A case was registered against the ambulance driver.

In another accident, R. Murugan (37) from Kovilpatty, near Dindigul, died after the moped he rode was hit by a car on Coimbatore-Pollachi Road on Sunday noon. The police said that the car hit Murugan’s two-wheeler after hitting another car. Murugan died on the spot.

Ganja seized

The Thadagam police arrested a 34-year-old man with three kg of ganja on Sunday.

R. Panneerselvam, a resident of Indira Colony near Kanuvai, was arrested with the contraband near a check dam on Kanuvai – Pannimadai road on Sunday evening. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
