Three held for fraud

Three persons were arrested by the Economic Offences and Investigation Wing here for embezzlement of funds worth ₹90.77 lakh from Ottahalli Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society on Friday. The embezzlement reportedly took place during 2012-17, when one of the accused was the secretary of the Society and other was his junior staff during the period.

The accused Shankar, who was the secretary during the period, Palani, senior writer, and writer Murugan had embezzled the Society’s funds of ₹90,77,966 causing a deficit to the Society. The accused had fudged the Society’s records and siphoned off the funds. Following a complaint by Ravichandar, Deputy Registrar of the Society to the Economic Offences and Investigation, the accused were arrested. They were arrested under Sections 408, 471, 477A r/w 120B of IPC. The men were remanded on Friday.
