Three die of suspected A(H1N1) influenza at CMCH

Three persons who were undergoing treatment for A (H1N1) influenza and one person for dengue at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) died on Saturday and Sunday.

C. Saraswathi from P.N. Pudur, S. Thangam (47) from G.N. Mills, and Periyasamy (48) from Dharapuram, who were undergoing treatment for A(H1N1) influenza, died at the hospital, said hospital sources.

While Saraswathi, who earlier underwent treatment at a private hospital, and Periyasamy died late on Saturday, Thangam died in the early hours of Sunday. Anthony (63) from Tirupur, who was undergoing treatment for symptoms of dengue, died at CMCH late on Saturday.

Cause of death

As on Sunday, 45 persons were undergoing treatment for A(H1N1) influenza and five persons for dengue at CMCH. CMCH authorities did not comment whether the three persons tested positive for A(H1N1) influenza and one for dengue and did not confirm the cause of death.
