The Hindu in School Chess competition on August 24

The Hindu in School chess competition will be held on August 24 at Periyar University here.

The competition, held in Open category, would be conducted in Under 9, 11, 13 and 15 categories.

There would be an exclusive contest for girls, a release said.

Interested participants can register on the website http://www.salemchess.com/events.aspx and the registration fee was ₹150.

Students, who had completed the online registration, should bring a printout of the confirmatory email received from The Hindu along with their school identity card.

Both these documents were mandatory at the registration counter, the release added.

Players were advised to bring their own chess boards and chess clocks, if available. The tournament would be played on Swiss League basis under the latest FIDE rapid rules, the release added.

Winners would be given prizes and merit certificates. All participants would receive participation certificates.

The event will be held under the aegis of Salem District Chess Association. It is presented by JSW Steel Coated Products Limited. Indian Oil is the regional sponsor and Periyar University the venue partner. For details, contact 95855 06050.
