Take action against police officers in Pollachi case: CPI(M)

The State Government delaying action against police officers in the Pollachi sexual abuse case is troubling, former State Secretary, Communist Party of India (Marxist) G. Ramakrishnan said here on Sunday.

“The Madras High Court that has suggested disciplinary action against the Coimbatore Superintendent of Police and Pollachi Deputy Superintendent of Police, has also awarded compensation for the victim. By remaining silent, is the State Government disrespecting the High Court,” he told reporters.

“The Election Commission too has said it has no objection to the Government acting against the officers concerned. But the Government appears to be hesitant. Why is it so? Without further delay, the Government must immediately act against the officers.”

According to him, in the last five years of the National Democratic Alliance Government, Coimbatore, an industrial city, has seen closure of industries and retrenchment of labourers. The State Government too has admitted that 50,000 small and medium industries had shut down and five lakh workers had lost jobs because of Demonetisation and GST, he said.

Mr. Ramakrishnan said that the CPI(M) would release its manifesto soon.

The party’s nominee for the Coimbatore Parliamentary seat P.R. Natarajan said the NDA government that had waived off loans for industrialists had left in lurch farmers. If the DMK-led alliance in the State was to be voted to power, it would waive off agriculture and education loans.
