Over 70 students from Classes X and XII from two government schools on Wednesday have urged the district administration to postpone their board examination or reduce the syllabus so that they can take up the examination without fear.

Students from Government Higher Secondary School in Jari Kondalampatti and from Veerapandi came to the Collectorate along with their parents. Police on duty alerted the District Educational Officer L. Sumathi, who arrived at the spot, and held talks with the students. They told the officer that the syllabus was completed in a short period of time and they were unable to follow. The officer asked the students to submit petitions individually so that necessary action could be taken. Later, the students submitted petitions.

Students told the media that classes commenced for them only from September, 2021, and schools were again closed in January, 2022, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since refresher courses were conducted in the first two months, subjects were taught only for less than three months. They said that the entire syllabus was covered in a short period and they were unable to follow the subjects. Either the board examinations should be postponed or the syllabus should be reduced, they said.
