Students bag award in robotics contest

Six students from The Indian Public School (TIPS) here have bagged the ‘Enabler Award’ in the annual World Robotic Championship FTC held in the U.S. It was conducted by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a not-for-profit organisation.

According to a press release, the school team, ‘Technomancers,’ beat more than 900 teams from dozens of countries to bag this award, which includes scholarships to help them pursue higher studies in institutions in the U.S. The team comprised of Ashwin A. Kumar, Nithin A. Kumar, Nishanth Jay Kumar, Nikhilesh S. Kumar, all Plus-One students, and Ajay Vijay Kumar and Athmika Senthil Kumar, both Plus-Two students.

The students had designed, built and programmed the robot under the theme ‘Cascading effect.’ The robot had to take part in a sports event lasting two-and-a-half minutes. It had to collect balls of various sizes and fill a vessel attached to it, they said.
